The general idea of content creation is that a website content publisher must always be producing new pieces on a daily basis. Creating nonstop content eventually begins to burn you or your team out and even the community. Unbeknownst to many website owners is the wealth of content pieces they could be making from the existing content published.
We are going to look at how to take an existing post and turn it into new content pieces that your community will love. The old recycling bug has hit again!
“Create a Report or eBook from your Best Posts” – Compile your best posts (or series) and craft them into an eBook or report. Ebooks and reports are a great way to compile a wealth of information which may be difficult to access to your readers since your best posts may be scattered amongst categories and published on a variety of days. Ebooks and reports can be a collection of your best posts that span a wide range of topics or the best within a particular topic; you could even package your work into an item you sell on your blog!
Creating your own report or eBook is very simple. After you’ve compiled your information it really only comes down to creating the cover which can be done with free or paid cover tools you can find online. Begin sharing your ebook or report with your community or set up a payment gateway to allow readers to purchase the work.
“Record Videos that Compliment your Content” – Video can add a great layer of content for your website. Create videos based around your favorite content pieces you’ve previously published. Videos will let you tap into a new community on websites like YouTube, Vimeo and more. Additionally, you’ll be able to add these videos to your older posts to add value for new visitors.
Videos can also give you the perfect point of contact to tell your existing community about a post they may have missed in the past. Video is highly engaging, convert well and adds a new layer of branding possibilities to your website or blog.
“Make a Podcast that Taps into your Content” – Set up a microphone and begin reading through your content and then publish your recording as a podcast. Podcasts give you another platform to share your expertise, authority and brand. You’ll find that some people that may not have found your written content will absolutely love your podcasts.
Because you’re using your voice you’re giving another layer of personality which people can connect with. Behind the screen of every computer is another human being that wants to make a connection; your voice can be the thing that resonates in their heads whenever they find other content around topics you’ve covered in your podcasts (that’s branding to the extreme!).
As you can see, there are more than a few ways to take your content and repurpose or recycle it into new works. Using existing work does not cause a penalty to your ranking; in fact, it may be a great approach to content creation because you’re offering a wider scope of ways people can learn and engage with your website.
